Gong vs. Elanor Labs: an honest comparison.

I used Gong nearly every day for six years, then built Elanor. Here's how the two actually compare, where Elanor is the better choice, and where Gong still wins.

I'd wager very few people have used Gong more than I have. Six years, nearly every day, first as a rep and then running sales teams.

So when someone asks me "Gong vs. Elanor Labs - which one?", I'm not going to pretend I'm neutral. I built Elanor. But I also know exactly what Gong is great at, because I lived in it.

Here's the honest version: Gong and Elanor are not the same kind of product. Gong is a revenue platform. Elanor does one job - she scores how well your reps actually sold on every call and coaches them to it. If that's the job you're hiring for, I think Elanor is the better choice. If you run your forecast out of Gong, keep Gong for that.

Let me show my work.

IN ONE SENTENCE

Gong is a revenue AI platform (recording, forecasting, engagement, enrichment, agents) with call scoring as one feature; Elanor Labs is built only to score how well reps sold on every recorded call and coach them to it. For making reps better, Elanor is the better choice. For forecasting and pipeline, Gong still wins.

What is Gong, and what is Elanor Labs?

Short answer: Gong runs your revenue org. Elanor grades your selling.

Gong started as call recording and conversation intelligence and is now a full revenue platform: Gong Forecast with deal boards, Gong Engage for sequencing, Gong Enrich for contact data, Deep Mode research and an Agent Builder, all announced or expanded at Celebrate '26 on September 30, 2026 (Gong). Credit where it's due: on October 7, 2026, Info-Tech Research Group named Gong a 2026 Conversation Intelligence Champion based on verified user reviews (Info-Tech). It is a very good platform.

Elanor Labs is Revenue Behavioral Intelligence™. She watches every recorded sales call, scores the behaviors that create or destroy revenue against a rubric built for that type of meeting, and turns it into an RBI Score for every rep, team and company. Think of it as a credit score for sales conversations. Then she coaches every rep on every call, within minutes.

That's it. No forecast. No sequences. No enrichment. One job, done properly.

Why Elanor is the better choice for making reps better

Five reasons, each with the receipts on how Gong does it today.

1. Scoring is the whole product, not a feature on a recorder

Gong can score calls. Its AI answers scorecard questions you write, and Gong's help center is honest about the limits: answers are "based primarily on the call transcript," the AI "tends to answer yes," and it is "less reliable at making judgement calls," so fact-based questions work better (Gong Help Center, updated September 13, 2026).

Here's the problem. Selling is judgement. Did the rep actually uncover pain, or just ask about it and move on? Elanor was built for exactly that question. She watches the full call, not just the transcript, and grades the behaviors that create or destroy revenue.

2. You don't have to write the scorecard yourself

With Gong, you write the questions, add examples, split up compound questions, and use "Test it" against real calls until the AI behaves (Gong Help Center). That's real work, and in my experience most teams never finish it. The scorecard gets built once, drifts, and quietly dies.

With Elanor, the rubric for each meeting type is built with you, from your own playbook. An intro call isn't graded like a demo. I've run and coached more than 2,500 intro calls over the past decade. You are not starting from a blank scorecard.

3. One number, and no black box behind it

Gong gives you answers to the questions you asked. Elanor gives you one RBI Score for every call, rep, team and company, and every score breaks down into the skills and the timestamped moments behind it. When a rep asks "why a 68 and not a 75?", the answer is on the call, with a timestamp.

That matters because of something else in Gong's FAQ: "Sometimes, AI produces different outputs for identical inputs. This is expected and normal AI behavior" (Gong Help Center). Fair enough, AI does that. But if a score is going to drive a coaching conversation, the rep has to see the moments behind it. Otherwise it's a number they'll argue with.

4. Every rep, every call, within minutes. Including your top performers

Real talk: managers coach the bottom of the board. Your top reps almost never get quality feedback, and lack of development is one of the main reasons great reps leave. In Gong, automatic scorecards score only the call host by default, and a manager still has to open the review (Gong Help Center).

Elanor coaches everyone, on EVERY call. An hour-long call takes her roughly four minutes, and she cuts short clips of the moments that mattered before a manager would have opened the recording. My own example: I ran a call recently that felt awesome. Within minutes Elanor scored it a 90 and showed me what to do better and where to take the deal. No more replaying it in my head on the drive home.

5. Nothing to rip out

Elanor joins Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet as a notetaker, or works from the recordings you already have. Scores write back to HubSpot today, with others listed on integrations. Reps don't change a thing about how they sell. The first new thing they see is their own coaching. See how it works.

Where Gong still wins

I'll say this plainly, because it's true. If your leadership team runs the forecast out of Gong Forecast and its deal boards (Gong Help Center), if your SDRs live in Gong Engage, or if you want enrichment and always-on agents from one vendor, Gong is the better fit for that work.

Elanor doesn't do forecasting, deal boards, sequencing, dialing or data enrichment, and she's not trying to. Role-play and benchmark reports are on our roadmap, not shipped. If those are the jobs, buy them from Gong.

Can you run Gong and Elanor Labs together?

Yes. Three setups I'd actually recommend:

  1. Keep both. Gong for the pipeline, Elanor for the people. She works from the calls you're already recording.
  2. Downsize Gong. If coaching was the main reason you bought Gong, cut back to the licenses you actually use at renewal (here's how I'd negotiate that) and put Elanor on the coaching job.
  3. Replace the recorder. If you only used Gong to record and review calls, Elanor can be the notetaker too. The wider market is in Gong alternatives.

How to compare Gong and Elanor on your own calls

Don't take my word for it, or Gong's. Run a quick test:

  1. Pick five recorded calls of one meeting type: two that felt great, two that felt flat, one you can't place.
  2. Score them in Gong with the scorecard you have today. Note how long it takes and whether you know what to coach afterward.
  3. Send the same five to Elanor. Within minutes you'll have an RBI Score per call and the moments behind it.
  4. Ask each tool one question: "What should this rep do differently next call?" Whichever answers without you re-watching the call is the one built for coaching.

The lesson

Gong is an excellent platform for running a revenue org. It was never built to make your reps better salespeople, and that's fine. That's our job.

If you run a sales team and your reps' calls are recorded, reach out. We gotta chat. Send us a handful of calls and we'll run Elanor on them so you can compare for yourself.

Frequently asked questions

How does Elanor Labs compare to Gong?
Gong is a revenue AI platform with scorecards as one feature among forecasting, sequencing, enrichment and agents. Elanor Labs does one job: it scores how well reps sold on every recorded call against a rubric for that meeting type and coaches every rep within minutes. For making reps better, Elanor is the better choice; for forecasting and pipeline, Gong wins.
Is Elanor Labs a replacement for Gong?
For coaching and call scoring, yes, and it can replace the recorder too because it joins Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet as a notetaker. It does not replace Gong Forecast, Gong Engage or Gong Enrich. Elanor does no forecasting, deal boards, sequencing, dialing or data enrichment.
Does Gong score sales calls automatically?
Yes. As of October 2026, Gong AI answers the scorecard questions you write, based primarily on the call transcript, on the Enable Essentials and Enable plans. Gong's help center notes the AI is less reliable at judgement calls and that automatic scorecards score only the call host by default.
Why choose Elanor Labs over Gong for sales coaching?
Because scoring is Elanor's whole product, not a feature. Rubrics are built with you for each meeting type, every call gets one RBI Score that breaks down into skills and timestamped moments, and every rep, including top performers, is coached on every call within minutes. Nothing to rip out: Elanor works from the calls you already record.
Can I use Elanor Labs alongside Gong?
Yes. Many teams keep Gong for pipeline and forecasting and run Elanor on the same recordings to score every call and coach reps. Reps don't change how they work.
What is an RBI Score?
The RBI Score is Elanor's Revenue Behavioral Index™: one number for a call, rep, team or company that reflects how well they sold, like a credit score for sales conversations. Every score breaks down into the skills and timestamped moments behind it, so there is no black box.
